About us
Who are we?
Ocean Connect is home to a diverse team of marine enthusiasts of all ages, backgrounds and interests. Some team members have been volunteering with the organisation for over a decade, whilst others have only just joined us recently. Volunteers include marine biologists with specialist areas in a range of marine habitats such as seagrass and mangroves as well as more specifically seaslugs, nudibranch, marine turtles, and shore birds. Others are passionate about environmental education and raising awareness and are registered science teachers or university lecturers.

The organisation is a springboard for early career marine scientists, who are often experiencing their first hands-on, real life involvement in marine biology after they graduate from University. This proves beneficial as many have propelled into environmental careers within local and State government, consulting or academia, often still finding time to volunteer once they find employment.

Ocean Connect provides activities and experiences for non-divers, beginner divers or experienced divers, youth groups and senior citizens, marine enthusiasts to marine professionals and Gold Coast long term residents to the newly arrived. The regular social activities provide opportunity to connect and network but also create lifelong friendships and mentoring for over 50 active volunteers.
